Mel Coker is the Chief Strategy Officer for the newly-created AT&T Communications, a wholly owned subsidiary of AT&T Inc. She is responsible for driving the overall strategy and business development for AT&T Communications, the components of which generated more than $155 billion in revenue in 2016. She was appointed to her corporate strategy role in September 2015 and later appointed as Chief Strategy Officer in 2017.
Prior to her current role, Mel served as chief marketing officer for the organization formerly known as AT&T Home Solutions. In that role, she was responsible for driving growth of a $22 billion consumer wireline business, including voice, data and video product development, lifecycle management and consumer marketing programs.
Previously, Mel held several marketing assignments, including vice president of product development for AT&T’s Mobility Emerging Devices organization where she oversaw product management and development for Internet of Things devices. She was also vice president of converged customer experience, leading the strategy and initiatives to deliver a seamless experience across all mobility and consumer touch points.
Mel joined AT&T from BellSouth. Prior to the merger of those two companies, she held a variety of assignments. These included product management, customer experience, strategy, network engineering, operations, sales and service across the mobile, video and wireline telecom marketplace.
Mel serves on the Georgia Institute of Technology School of Electrical and Computing Engineering Advisory Board, GSMA Strategy group and Engage Ventures board. She is also active in her church where she teaches Sunday school and has held several leadership positions.
Mel holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Business Administration from Georgia State University. She is also a licensed electrical engineer in the State of Georgia.Back to Team Page
